Late 50's, my birth

I was born in 1957 so I don't remember the late 50's too vividly. I do know that Raheny was still quite a small place and was still more or less a village. The area beyond Foxfield was not yet built and the area beyond the fire station was pure countryside.

It started to be developed towards the end of the 50's because of it's proximity to the city, the railway station being a positive reason to settle there. It was also not far from Dublin city centre by bus.

What made it that bit more attractive was it's proximity to many local amenities like Dollymount strand and St Anne's park. It was quite a friendly place and everybody seemed to know everybody.

Into this small part of Dublin I was born.
